Magee General Hospital invites the community to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house celebrating the completion of the hospital’s year-long renovation project on Dec. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The project, which was completed in phases, included the renovation of three state-of-the-art surgical suites; new pre-operative and post-operative areas; a new surgical nurses’ station; a more centralized registration area; the addition of a large boardroom; updated wayfinding and new furniture and finishes throughout the hospital’s entryway.

MGH officially broke ground on this extensive project on February 26, 2025, after receiving a $4 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

“Magee General Hospital is immensely grateful for the efforts of all of those involved in this project,” President and CEO Gregg Gibbes said. “This goal would not have been possible without the efforts of Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith to secure the grant, Hattiesburg-based company, Codaray Construction, to efficiently complete the work and MGH employees to ensure operations continued without interruption while the project was being completed.”

As part of this project, MGH was also able to make some improvements on the outside of the hospital, including repaving the parking lot and painting the front facade.

“The goal of this project has always been to improve the patient experience by offering them the highest standard of care while also increasing comfort and convenience,” Magee General Hospital Plant Operations Director Russell McNease said. “We were able to accomplish this without needing to add overall square footage or interrupting patient care.”

The ribbon cutting and open house will be an exciting opportunity for the community, public officials and hospital employees to celebrate the culmination of a project that has been years in the making.
